4 Types of Hongtai Activated Carbon
There are 4 types of Hongtai actived carbon according to the product shapes.
(1) Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC). Powdered activated carbon is actually smaller granular activated carbon which has small particle size, large surface area, so that it is superior to the commonly used granular activated carbon in the adsorption effect.
(2) Granular Activated Carbon (GAC). It is traditional activated carbon used in the water purifier. The smaller the particles, the better the adsorption effect, but the greater water resistance (pressure drop), and can not avoid carbon droping, so manufacturers shall select the appropriate particle size. In large water treatment equipment, 10 to 24 mesh (Φ2.0 to 0.8mm) activated carbon is widely used, and charcoal column used in small household water purifier has the characters of short height, fast-flowing rate, less contact time with water, so the 16 to 32 mesh (Φ1.3 ~ 0.6mm) activated carbon is the best choice.
(3) ACF (ACF). According to different raw materials, there are two kinds: 1. Raw material: viscose-based fiber filament, processed into cloth, undergoes carbonization, activation and high-temperature treatment. 2. Raw material: polyacrylonitrile based fiber, processed into carpet, undergoes pre-oxidation, carbonization, activation and high temperature treatment. The average pore diameter of the former is 17 ~ 26A, latter 10 ~~ 20A.
Activated carbon fiber is often made into a thickness of 1 ~ 5mm carpets, it has more microporous than that of particle activated carbon, larger surface area (1000 ~ 1600m2 / g), 2 to 6 times greater adsorption capacity (high), and faster adsorption speed, but also has a good reproduction performance, the desorption rate is fast, can be reused. The drawback is that the price is more expensive, but also easy to breed bacteria.

(4) Sintered Carbon Filter (CTO), also known as carbon rods filter, compressed activated carbon filter. Adding a binder (e.g. PE resin) to it and undergoes heated sintering molding. the outer layer of the carbon core is often packed with white polypropylene (PP) non-woven fabric. Sintered carbon filter media has both adsorption and filtration (average pore size of 3 ~ 20μm) functions, but the filter function is not good as the PP meltblown, adsorption function is no better than the granular activated carbon filter.
